Health Related Social Needs: An Emerging Opportunity for Behavioral Health
Health related social needs (HRSN) represent difficult conditions, such as food insecurity, housing instability, unemployment and lack of reliable transportation, that often contribute to poor health.
Mental health and substance use treatment organizations, including Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics (CCBHCs), often provide services that address HRSN for their clients. This report outlines opportunities and considerations for using Medicaid funding to provide or expand HRSN-related services.
This report was developed in partnership with the Technical Assistance Collaborative.
