Redefining Black Masculinities: Clinical Considerations in the Emergence of 988
Join the National Council for Mental Wellbeing and Vibrant Emotional Health for our webinar, Redefining Black Masculinities: Clinical Considerations in the Emergence of 988,on Wednesday, July 19, 4-5 p.m. ET.
As we continue to look at ways to improve inclusivity in the crisis care system, we want to ensure that 988 sufficiently addresses the mental health conditions of Black men and boys in crisis. In this presentation, we will discuss how the Black and African American (B/AA) experience for men and boys in the U.S. is characterized by trauma and violence more often than White men and boys. We will also address holistic approaches and collaborative strategies to improve mental health resources, reduce barriers to access and address mental health needs for these individuals, specifically in crisis situations.
After attending the webinar, you’ll have a better understanding of:
- How mental health is impacted by racism and sexism.
- The impact of the concept of patriarchy on the functioning of Black boys, men, transgender men and trans-masculine presenting individuals.
- Black masculinity and disrupting how we respond and support these individuals.
