Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics: A Vision for the Future

Solving the nation’s ongoing mental health and substance use crises takes innovation. That’s precisely what the CCBHC model allows — the flexibility for participating community-based clinics to expand their services and tailor mental health and substance use care to meet the individual needs of their communities.
What Is a CCBHC?
CCBHCs are clinics that receive federal funding at rates that allow them to offer comprehensive mental health and substance use care to anyone who walks in their door, no matter their ability to pay.
CCBHCs Expand Access to Care
The results have been transformative — amidst a national mental health crisis, record high overdose death rates and an ongoing behavioral health workforce shortage, the CCBHC model successfully lowers barriers to accessing care while equipping clinics with the resources to expand services, reduce wait times and better recruit and retain staff.
CCBHCs by the numbers:
- >2M people currently served across all active CCBHCs and grantees
- 27 new staff positions created as a result of becoming a CCBHC
- 82% of CCBHCs offer at least one type of MAT vs. 56% nationwide
People who receive care at CCBHCs experience:
- 72% reduction in hospitalization
- 40.7% reduction in homelessness
- 60.3% less time in jails
It’s Time to Maximize CCBHCs’ Success
Thanks to the innovative CCBHC model, we’re entering a new era — one that will define how people access mental health and substance use services in their communities.
