Implementation Toolkit for Statewide Tobacco Control Programs
Tobacco use remains the leading cause of preventable death and disability in the US with significant disparities in individuals with mental health and substance use disorders. Access to resources to support the implementation of evidence-based tobacco control policies, systems and environmental change can eliminate tobacco disparities and promote equitable change in tobacco control.
The National Behavioral Health Network for Tobacco and Cancer Control’s is excited to announce an Implementation Toolkit for Statewide Tobacco Control Programs to best address the disparities related to mental health and substance use disorder. The Implementation Toolkit for Statewide Tobacco Control Programs is both a guide and call to action to strengthen public health focus in identifying and addressing tobacco-related health disparities among individuals with mental health and substance use disorders.
Developed by a team of multidisciplinary experts, this toolkit provides practical examples, solutions, resources and tools to:
- Close the disparity gap for individuals with mental health and substance use disorders who use tobacco through an overview of evidence-based practices, policies and procedures.
- Drive implementation activities related to tobacco-free campus policies, increased tobacco use screening and cessation treatment in mental health and substance use facilities.
- Support individuals with nicotine addiction using trauma-informed resiliency-oriented services to promote long-term recovery.
