CoE-IHS Office Hour: Providing Integrated Care Services to Latinx Migrant Communities

Because of historical marginalization and discrimination among communities of color, access to equitable care remains a barrier for many, including among people of the Latin American diaspora. Cultural and language barriers in health care services persist, making migrants, asylum seekers and refugees particularly vulnerable and hindering their access to needed care.

To increase access to equitable care and promote wellbeing among Latinx migrant communities, it is essential to provide culturally and linguistically responsive services, practice cultural humility and recognize the strengths and resilience of the many individuals and families who come to the U.S. from Latin America. Through this type of whole-person and integrated care approach, providers can mitigate barriers to care and have a positive impact on marginalized individuals and communities.
